Teuri Haarla (b.1955 in Helsinki) is one of the first artists who started to work with land art in Finland, since the year 1986. He works also with other medias, such as performance, video, sculptures, drawing and writing. This land art is based on raising earthworms in the humus soils, which is the natural and non violent method of cultivating the earth.

Since he was fifteen, Haarla practiced different methods of meditation, until he developed his own spontaneous meditation “Biodrunk”, witch can be practiced by simple forest, field and building works. This widened the range, and increased the amount of time spent in those most wanted states of mind and body.

Haarla is a self-taught artist who has had solo exhibitions in Finland since 1985  and his works has been shown in many group exhibitions in Europe.  He has also made public commissions and his works is presented in many public and private collections, for example in Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma.  Over the years he has kept art courses in different art schools in Finland.

So, where is your RESPONSIBILITY then, as a member of any group?

It lies in here. With your ”clever”, aware and edjucated MIND, you have to ARRANGE SAFE CIRCUMSTANCES for these kind of releasing real-ease happenings, of the biodrunken whole self, expressing then, its relative freedom.

And last: A WARNING!

I have never used drugs, nor any mental medicine, nor been in mental hospital, (which might be for some of you, hard to believe).During my whole life, ALCOHOL I have drunk ” only moderate amounts”,never two days in row.

The most serious danger, you may perhaps imagine, lies in here: to let loose the repressed ”subconscious material” with intoxicating chemicals, combined with this Biodrunken Relifion . . . what would happen then?
As it is said: YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! DON’T TRY THIS – WITH UNWILLING OTHERS!

HOW IS THEN BIODRUNK DONE OR ”ALLOWED”?

I am sorry to say: Individual advices cannot be given, because biodrunk is . . . abandon of any method. As like says Martin Buber in his book ”I and Thou” ( on page 12): ”Any means is just a hindrance.” So, no instructions, no methods to follow. There is nothing to believe!

The only foot path, possibly to be found, is inside your body,
and in your many layered mind too, because
the larger or wider memory than ”my” memory,
is in every cell of this human ape body.

In your self the way, the most narrow path, it has arisen up.
The dead (head) end turns out to be ”alive and growing”,
now, up to now, up till now, the towering flower of the moment,
from these, ever darkening soils of human humus memory.

As I have said already: A HUMAN IS A PLANT DOWNSIDE UP.
